Rural Nutritional Supplement Programme of The School KFI - Outreach

Since July 2007, under the Rural Outreach programme a glass of multigrain Nutritional Supplement is given to 220 children in the Govt school at Kilapakkam village, about 80 km from Chennai. These children receive this natural supplement each working day of school. The Headmaster / Headmistress of the school supervises the project. The cost is about Rs 8000 per month which amounts to about Rs 40 per child per month, or about Rs 1.80 per serving. (Detailed costing given below). Vellapandal village has started this programme also.

This project was launched when it was recognized by Dr Jayashree Gopal, a parent volunteer of the school, that many of the health problems of the village had to do with poor nutrition. The Kilapakkam project could be seen as a model of partnering between a rural Government school and a private school to deliver an essential need to children whose diet may lack some essential basic nutrients. 

The village schools of Aanoor, Vallipuram, Vazhuvathur and Mudaiyur, have approached us for a Nutritional Supplement project. This year the project cost is estimated to cover about 800 to 1000 children at about Rs 50,000 per month (About 5L annual) starting from September 2008. We have commenced the preliminary work of locating cooks and sourcing the initial requirements. 

You can support this project in any one of the following ways:

• Support the programme the start up costs – about Rs. 5000 per school
• Support nutrition in a school for a year - Rs 70 - 80,000 
• Support a school for a month - Rs 7000 to Rs 10,000
• Support the programme through monthly contributions  - Rs. 500 - Rs. 3000
• One time earmarked donation to Corpus or for expenses - Rs 1 L and above

Contributions by Indian Nationals, NRIs or PIO card holders in Indian Rupees may be made through cheque favouring "The School KFI" . Contributions by Foreign Nationals whether in Indian Rupees or Foreign Currency may be made through cheque favouring "Krishnamurti Foundation India - Foreign Contribution Account". Kindly indicate the purpose of the contribution on the reverse of the cheque as "The School-KFI - Rural Outreach - Nutrition" All contributions will have exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
